In the spirit of Christmas giving, the company I work for is raising funds for Brenda Hull who runs the "SAVE A HORSE Equine Adoption & Rehabilitation Farm." I thought perhaps the Harroage Hills community might like to help out with this cause too. I will bring a donation box to the Harrogate Hills Christmas party if anyone would like to contribute. You can also check out the "SAVE A HORSE" website through the "Other Links" button on this website.

Dear Pat: It was great to talk to you this evening! I am so pleased that all is going well at Harrogate Hills. Don't forget it is an "open invitation" for you and all the riders to come to Calgary for a visit..."lots of room in the inn". (Once again thanks to everyone for the great love and care Bijou was fortunate to receive for so many years at the best barn ever!)

I came to Harrogate Hills when I was a second grader. I wish I can still there. I have noticed that about only six horses I know that I was with along time ago are still alive. The rest have died. I also want to know how Kerry is doing from time to time. I miss him.

Blue was the best school horse ever!! all the students loved him - he was always sweet to all riders and definitly a cutie :)

Sunday, October 5, 2008 @ 9:04 pm
Re Gone but not forgotten

Amy and Fly were both boarders.
Blue was originally a school horse at the University of Toronto. He came with me when the riding school closed in 1984 and taught all sorts of people to ride for a long, long time. He was a great horse and ended his days in retirement, and being Fritz's best friend. We still miss him and in truth all of the friends who are gone but truly never forgotten.

Friday, October 3, 2008 @ 4:42 pm

Hi I was looking at the pictures of the Gone But Not Forgotten. I was wondering what the History was of AMY, BLUE, and Fly. They all look like such beautiful horses and i was just curious when they were at the barn and if they got ridden

Hi Corle
It is nice to hear from you. Bijou was put down on June 25 due to complications from colic. Omby had damaged her suspensory ligaments and it was becoming difficult to keep her pain free. We felt it was the most humane thing to do. We miss them all but we will always remember and appreciate them for everything they added to the riding school. Thank you for asking about them.
If ever you are out this way I hope you will stop by the farm to visit.
Bye for now,
Pat

As the saying goes "all good things must come to an end". At this very sad time of my dear Bijou's passing I would like to especially thank PAT and everyone at Harrogate Hills for taking such good care of Bijou for so many years. She certainly was a lucky girl to be a part of the Harrogate family.

Omby & Fritz

I am sooooo sorry to hear about omby and fritz , they were both extraodanairy horses that we all have so much to learn from. I'll miss our bombshell blonde omby's sweet little nicker when she was about to recieve something yummy. I'll miss the gental giant fritz, and his contant need of attention and love! They both taught so many begginner ridders the joy of riding. They will both be missed dearly and will ALWAYS be remembered.

Monday, March 24, 2008 @ 6:14 pm
Joanne

I'm very, very sorry to hear about Fritz and Omby. Omby was a rare, special horse...

Monday, March 24, 2008 @ 9:11 am

Sadly, Omby, (the best school horse Harrogate ever had) was also put down on Monday. She had done a lot of damage to her suspensory ligaments in both hind legs and it was getting harder and harder to keep her pain free. It was a hard decision but after everything she had contributed in her life, it was not right to let her suffer.

Sunday, March 23, 2008 @ 9:56 pm

Yes. Fritz was put down on Monday March 17 due to complications from Cushing's Disease.

Sunday, March 23, 2008 @ 9:53 pm

Regarding the name "Harrogate Hills":
I was fortunate to ride at a place called the Yorkshire Riding Centre back in 1982. It is in a beautiful part of northern England. There is a town near by called Harrogate and because I enjoyed my time in England so much I decided to use that name when I returned to Canada.

Good answers. Thanks to whoever took the time to write.
Pat

Sunday, February 10, 2008 @ 7:53 am

Does she do this on different saddles on different horses, or only on one saddle? If it's only happening on one saddle then it could be a saddle fitting issue and that should be checked. If the saddle doesn't fit the horse properly and is tipped too far back, then it's going to be difficult for her to sit squarely in the seat without be thrown onto the cantle. If you've ruled out a poorly- fitting and unbalanced saddle, then you can focus on correcting her riding technique.

maybe putting her on a lundge line and getting to her do sitting trot in the right part of the saddle holding onto to pommel with her hands so she can pull herself into the seat?

you could also try getting to her post lower to the saddle and have her kneel forward instead of standing up ( if she does that ). It also might help to ride with longer stirrups so she cant mover her seat around too much when trotting. posting without stirrups would help alot as well!

good luck !

Help.

Hi
I was just wondering if any of the experienced riders or coaches here have an idea of how to help my friend improve her seat.
See her problem is that she sits on the cantle and we have tried many different methods to help her stop her bad habbit but nothing seems to be working.
If anyone has any ideas please feel free to respond :)
Thanks.

umm what Pat said wasnt harsh at all.
its the truther because only she will truly know when Remy will be ready... you can't always put a time limit on things and nothing happens overnight
also, the facts need to be straight before people say things that they're not sure of
